There was a news story about how "recession proof" Halloween is. Seems people shell out quite a bit each year and it's steadily increasing.
Our Halloween spending:
$36 - DD's costume
$21 - DD's costume accessories
$10 - DS's costume (bought on clearance)
$14 - pumpkins
$17 - decorations (add a little more each year)
$14 - candy (big bag from Costco)
-----
$112 Total
Could have easily spent more on decorations. There or some cool things we saw. I wanted to add a few more tombstones, but passed this year. They were $6 or more each.
We only ended up with about 15 Trick or Treaters so we have a ton of candy left over. Seems that a HUGE amount of people T/T in the historic area of town. That's where DD went and she said it was packed. Makes the "average" neighborhoods pretty empty I guess.
How much did Halloween cost you?

I am surprised Halloween is so recession proof. IT's the ONE and only time I see super spendy people who are "scared to buy used things" shopping for deals, borrowing costumes, and buying used. Maybe this is because they spend a fortune on candy and decorations - I don't know. I usually get weird comments for tending to buy new costumes (just easy for this busy working mom). But, of course, we recycle costumes, hand them down, etc. So it's not like I buy brand new costumes every year.

$4.20 pumpkin and gourds
$12.75 candy
Total Halloween cost: $19.95
I think next year we are skipping the pumpkin. One daughter picked it and the gourds out, I scooped it out, and the other daughter carved...but wasn't overly interested in that process either!
Next year it might just be candy. We were short on trick or treaters and I did buy extra candy since one daughter didn't trick or treat.
