I was flipping through the mail when I got home from work and I had a new credit card.
Problem was it wasn't a card I applied for..
So I called (Barclays) and long story short someone opened this line of credit at an Apple store in a nearby city and bought themselves almost $2k worth of stuff (new laptop?) using my identity.
I was advised by the Barclay's CSR to place a fraud alert with the credit bureaus - I think I should take the further step and do a freeze. I am thinking we should do it for DH also.
What do you think?
I'm off to check our CreditKarma accounts to see if anything is popping up.
UGH!

You need to pull a free credit report from each of the bureaus. The credit won't be showing up but you will see all the inquiries. If you got something in the mail I bet it will all be showing up by now. When my ID was stolen they open and maxed out *seven* credit cards. !! When you start to call the stores you may find others. All the fraud will not show up at one credit bureau (credit karma). Might eventually get there but it can take a long time. Crossing my fingers that it was just the one. These days it is easy to clear up. It's not the nightmare that it was 20 years ago. Might take some phone calls and some notarized forms.
If you look on my blog I have an ID theft category if you want to read the whole saga.

Marie - I don't have any idea. I am careful (I think).
